Employment Law

Employment law is the branch of law that examines and regulates relationships between employees and employers. It concerns relationships arising from employment contracts and the obligation to provide dependent work.

It covers not only the relationship between the parties to an employment contract, but also organisations to which they may belong, collective bargaining and collective labour disputes.

Employment law is divided into individual employment law and collective labour law.

Individual Employment Law

This branch examines and regulates the legal relationship between an employee and an employer. Their agreement is an employment contract. It covers the performance of contractual rights and obligations, working conditions, rest periods, occupational health and safety, and the termination of employment and its consequences.

Collective Labour Law

This generally applies in workplaces, particularly large businesses, where employees and employers are represented collectively through organisations such as trade unions. It covers the establishment of unions, union membership, collective agreements, the dissolution of unions and trade union rights.
